Graham came into the class with his drone today. He told us about how the drone works and he explained that the drone is colour coded, for example, the silver propellers attach to the silver part of the drone at the front and the black propellers attach to the rear of the drone. He told us about how he needs to connect the drone to the GPS signal by spinning it around once upright and then again but this time on its side.
We went out the basketball court to watch the take off. He let Scott in the class fly it to the field, and then Graham retook control. He took some photographs and a video; and landed the drone safely back on the court. We thanked him and said our goodbyes as he left the school. When we got back to the class we looked at the pictures and the video but unfortunately you could only see the stakes we were using as the grid to measure the wetlands from an angle and not from a bird’s eye view as we had hoped. But we noticed that the wetlands had grown a lot since the original pictures that were taken in August.
